Coming up with cataract surgery marketing ideas can be easy. The content on this page will help you market your cataract surgery practice, even if you don’t think you need it!

Why Do You Need Cataract Surgery Marketing Ideas?

Most ophthalmologists I know tell me they have enough cataract patients. In fact, some tell me they have a waiting list for surgery of three months or more.

If you are in this situation, does this meant that you don’t need marketing? No. Maybe the opposite is true - you might need it more!

Is the Value of All Cataract Patients to a Practice the Same?

Let’s set-aside the Hippocratic oath and all of that. I’ve never met an eye surgeon who doesn’t care about his patients.

What’s also true, is that the way the market is no structured, not all cataract patients are the same value to your business. I know, and I’ll say it again, that you care for ALL of your patients.

So setting that aside, a cataract patient who seeks a refractive outcome, and is not satisfied with the government-subsidized standard procedure, yields more economic value to your practice. You don’t need an MBA to understand that!

I know you still make certain every patient gets great care and a good outcome. Have I written that enough?

What if Cataract Surgery Marketing Ideas Make You Feel “Salesy”?

I once had a conversation I had with an ophthalmologist, recommended something he might say to patients, and he said to me, “Joel, that sounds like a salesman and that’s not me. I’m a doctor.” Fair enough.

Next, I asked him if he might be more comfortable if we taught his staff to educate people so that when he was with them during the exam, they were curious about their options for surgery and asked him questions. He liked this idea a lot, so that’s what we did.

Marketing is part of medicine now, and I wrote about the ruling that impacted all of us here.

How Might You Begin Working On Cataract Surgery Marketing Ideas in Your Practice?

If you read this blog, you know I like to start with three steps. So here they are for beginning to create cataract surgery marketing ideas.

Step One

Get your team together to let them know how important it is for the practice that patients understand they have outcome options during cataract surgery. Stress that you are offering patients the benefits of a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Are there economic benefits to the practice? Sure. Remind your team that you are a business made up of people - you and them!

Step Two in Creating Cataract Surgery Marketing Ideas

Analyze the patient journey in your practice. Where does it begin? When do patients first learn that they might have options to achieve a visual outcome they’ve longed for?

For example, if you have a referral network, are those doctors armed with information and brochures to help you educate patients early?

Step Three in Cataract Surgery Marketing Ideas

Choose a software platform that helps you segment your patient market and gain insights into how you might run more efficiently in your office. I wrote about a company called “Surgiorithm” on this blog and had the CEO and a user on The Make Marketing Easy Podcast.

When you use a platform like Surgiorithm, you gain insights that help you decide where you might create content to help educate your patients. And educated patients are happy and profitable for you.

In Conclusion

Creating cataract surgery marketing ideas is a lot of fun. What’s exciting for me is when I help a practice learn to use simple strategies and tactics to grow and they work.

Stop back often to keep up-to-date with new content ideas, marketing strategies and tactics, and discussions about how to improve your Cataract Surgery marketing.

That’s what I’m going to write about on this page. So if you’re into that, stop back often. And leave a comment below about your favorite LASIK marketing ideas and how they’ve changed your practice.

Finally, I always like to give a book recommendation. Richard Lindstrom, MD once wrote in Ocular Surgery News that ophthalmology offices will one day more closely resemble dental offices. I think he’s right about that and here’s a good book from Ann Marie Gorczyca, DDS called “It All Starts with Marketing” (Affiliate Link) that offers 201 marketing tips.
