Why Did I Create The Make Marketing Easy Podcast?
The Make Marketing Easy Podcast began in December of 2016 as the Cognified Marketing and Selling Podcast. I started that as a way to help people be smarter about marketing and selling.
The original name came from a book by Kevin Kelly (The original editor of Wired Magazine) called “The Inevitable: Understanding the Twelve Technological Forces That Will Shape Our Future.” (Affiliate Link) He wrote about adding just a little bit of intelligence to ordinary products that makes them smart - Cognify.
I thought this was interesting, a potential keyword I might own, and bought-up every URL I could associate with that word.
What a dummy I am sometimes.
Why the Name Change?
My theme with the Make Marketing Easy Podcast is that marketing and selling can be easy. It’s true, if you believe it and set your mind on building skills and confidence.
My strategy of choosing “Cognified” as a keyword I might own wasn’t wrong. It just wasn’t attainable for me for a few reasons that are worth exploring.
Three Reasons I Pivoted From The Cognified Marketing and Selling Podcast to The Make Marketing Easy Podcast
Name Shift Reason Number One
The word “Cognified” is confusing. No one really knows what it means, so it’s confusing. And if you confuse, you lose.
Name Shift Reason Number Two of The Make Marketing Easy Podcast
Wanting to “own” a keyword is a solid strategy if you have the resources to pull it off. What I mean is, major brands can create words that stick because they have the time and money required to achieve this objective. I didn’t.
Name Shift Reason Number Three
Related to the second reason, was that Google organic search seeks to capture a user’’s intent. So the chances that someone is looking for a podcast about marketing and they’d enter “Cognified” into the search box was remote.
What I mean to say is, that seemed a lot more likely a person might enter the question “How do I make marketing easy?” So, I switched the name to The Make Marketing Easy Podcast.
Surprisingly, buying the URL makemarketingeasy.com was an affordable option! And here we are today.

In Conclusion
Perhaps like you, regularly creating content is difficult for me. Where I’ve struggled with The Make Marketing Easy Podcast is in producing episodes on a consistent basis so that I may build a regular following.
I am going to do that now, so if you’re willing to help me by either becoming a listener or a guest, let me know. With all of the humility and gratitude I can muster, I thank you for sticking with me as I build the airplane I’m trying to fly at the same time.
Have you ever felt like this? Leave a comment below and let me know.
In addition, I’ll continue to create content on this page to help you build your confidence by learning marketing and selling skills. So that means you will want to stop back often to see what’s new!
